The date for this years Scottish ACE Adventure race has been announced as 5th / 6th July 2008. I'm thinking of entering - anyone else fancy it? I think Adam is keen too....

....basically you all camp in a big campsite, have a jolly evening both on the Friday and Sat night. You can enter either the 1 or 2 day competition? Each day is similar and the aim of the competition is to get as many points as possible. As far as I understand, they have a running race for an allocated time slot (say 3 hours), during this time you have to reach as many stations as you can and do as many tasks as you can (for points). You then do the same for the mountain biking and kayaking.....

Location: Traquair House near Peebles in the Scottish Borders
Accommodation: Camping available all weekend

There are a number of race formats, all accept teams of 2 or 4 and all involve running / straight forward mountain biking / Night navigation / Easy Kayaking. The all seem to camp, start and finish in the same place.

- 1 day: Saturday only all day events finishing after an night navigation.
- 2 Day: Traditional Ace race format, saturday is the same as the 1 day event and then there is racing on Sunday (Bike / run etc)
- 2 Day Elite: Saturday racing, overnight racing, short rest period, race all day Sunday.

These races are a lot of fun, you come back to your tent between events so can change and do not have to carry much gear, they are really social there is a cafe and bar on site, and they can be as demanding as you want you choose how far you run / cycle etc.

The website for this is www.aceraces.com/ but it has not got much more info on it yet.

Any takers???

Ah, the enthusiasm of the young (and the cynicism of the - erm - older ones)!

I'm knackered even just reading about this. Half marathon races are bad enough (mainly because Jimmy Saville is always at them), but three days of self-flaggelation of this ilk, probably without the chance of the ladies from the WRVS being present to offer a decent cup of tea & a scone at elevenses, just somehow doesn't appeal.

And just think of the chaffing. If you must go, take a tub of Vaseline.

Do they allow wheel chair entries?
