I am shortly going to put the 2008/09 Meets Programme up on the forum, but before I do so I wanted to check that there is still interest for booking one of the Borders Bothy Association bothies.

The Association is a charity who have 6 bothies in the borders. Unlike the MBA bothies all have some facilities and are locked and require a booking to be made to obtain a key. There is no charge for their use, although donations are accepted.

I suggest we book Auchope, Grid Ref NT 855 215. I have checked and it is available. It is around 7miles south of Kelso and is within walking distance of The Cheviot. It has three rooms for sleeping in, all with an open fire. The main room has an open fire and stove. Their is hot water, a toilet and cutlery and crockery for around 12 folk. Karrimats and sleeping bags are required to be taken and there are platforms for 12, but the bothy can hold many more as it has a huge floor area!

Coal is required to be taken in, but cars can be taken to the door via a rough track.

The area is prime walking country, but don't expect Glen Coe type Highland scenery! Personally I think it would be great to get into an area that few of us know and that the accomodation sounds excellent. I have seen a picture of Auchope and it looks fantastic.

Please let me know your views. I shall take a lack of response as meaning that no one has any objections to booking it!

Ok, three immediate positive responses are enough for me :) I'll go ahead and book it.
