aw this is a joke forum! I did what you said Fester and it displays in the preview but just show raw html in the post!

It is not a joke Forum..... it is Flickr that is the joke :D

I visit 4 other forums daily where poster embed their pics
and nobody uses Flickr. It`s mainly Image Shack and Photobucket.
There are loads of others too if you look around
I can see the Flickr photo above but as I predicted it is huge.

You must ask yourself why Flickr don`t allow you to embed
a photo of proportions that fit a web page .

Notice how I`m typing wee short lines here so that the text doesn`t
run off the screen chasing your photo around.

Take it up with Flickr it`s their problem. :!:

I should have stayed up the hills today

PS: If you can find a workaround for Flickr other
than resizing the pics you upload to their site...
I`ll buy you a pint :D

Edit: Didn`t have to type the wee lines as I`m now on a normal width page again ... :P

No pint for you Stravvy :D

After clicking on the "All sizes" button you can then click on "medium" and then the Option 1 (the html code ) will embed a 500 x 375 image.

Still think Flickr`s crap though...

I`ll try with this pic of mesel on Squareface...

ha! you old girner - your attempt is showing as raw html too - so the forum is indeed naff :D I know about the other image sizes, I just used the wrong one but I couldn't see it to fix it coz the forum refused to show it.

Here's a quick HTML tutorial. An href (a with brackets) tells a browser to display whatever is in the href, so you don't embed a picture, the browser displays it from somewhere else. Here's what the forum has done to the href (view source on this page):

<a><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2226/2194273195_e80199a467.jpg" width="500" height="362" alt="Squareface"></a>

it's "escaped" the HTML markup (the brackets) so the browser no longer sees an href, instead it just sees plain text, which it displays instead of pulling in the image from flickr. Concrete proof that the forum is bust!

here endeth the lesson

now it works - whenever I write a post, HTML is set to ON. In my profile HTML was set to OFF, so there are two HTML settings, one for writing and one for reading. How naff is that? designed by committee

Well I thought I had seen and taken some good shots of cloud inversions over the years, but check this one out posted on UKClimbing http://www.ukclimbing.com/images/dbpage.html?id=122849

It says that it was taken on Aonach Beag, but I'm trying to work out in what direction :? My initial thought, without a map, is that it is looking south-ish over the Mamores (with Sgurr a'Mhaim on the right), towards Glen Coe with the Bidean massif prominent :?:

Anyone concur or got a different theory :?:

Fraser your pic is also on the Club Gallery http://orionmountaineeringclub.smugmug. ... 5oc/Medium

And while we are on the subject of the gallery, I've not had any photos from anyone for a while :?

Nobody got a comment on my theory about the Aonach Beag pic linked above :?:

That Aonach Beag picture is stunning.

Here are a couple of my measly cloud inversion efforts. First one was taken a couple of summers ago on Mt Blanc de Cheilon in the Valais Alps:

And from the top of Red Pike in Ennerdale at New Year:

I’ve got quite a few inversion photos. Some at the beginning of this thread and others I’ll need to scan in.

Here’s one that’s not the best, but its’s digital and on the pc…Ben More, Stob Binnien and Cruach Ardrain poking through the cloud. Taken from Ben Oss.
