I’ve just realised that we have an important date on the meets calendar just over the horizon…the club bbq.

For those who have forgotten, the date that was decided on was Sat 26 July, but as yet no venue has been finalised.

One suggestion was Inchcailloch on Loch Lomond. For those not familiar it is the wooded island closest to Balmaha. Although it is a nature reserve, camping is allowed at one end of the island where there is basic facilities. You can arrange to be ferried over at Balmaha boatyard, unless we can get together enough boats from club members.

I have contacted the National Park and initially they see no problem in a large well behaved party going over. However, they are going to contact me after confirming this with the local ranger.

Another more recent suggestion was to have the bbq in Glen Etive. As most of you will know there are many good spots in Glen Etive to camp down near the river.

What does everyone think :?: I really need for folk to respond, especially if the Inchailloch option is favourite, as this will involve booking the camping and organising the ferrying.

Inchcailloch would be a superb place to hold the bbq (if you can put up with the midges :!: ) but Glen Etive would be much easier to organise as it is a wild camping option.

Anyone else want to suggest other venues :?: Perhaps a coastal location :?:

The 26 July is the last weekend of the Burton family holiday so can't make any promises we'll be able to make it. I guess if the weather's dodgy up north then we may be up for it. But fingers crossed there will be a heatwave and we'll be sunnying ourselves on some obscure beach on a hebriddean island.

Prefer Glen Etive to Loch Lomond only cause I've always wanted to camp in the glen if you want an opinion.

I`d prefer Inchcailloch but it would make the organisation easier to plump for Glen Etive. So Etive it is for me...

I can make it. Always wanted to go to the far end of Glen Etive and have not yet managed.... always seem to camp within the first few km off the Glen Coe Road instead...

Think the knott family would prefer glen etive. Think we can make it, would prefer a rough camp near the road, finlay still isnt crawling that well.

I was going to invite my pal Katie and her 6 year-old daughter along, so Etive would be better for car-camping, I guess.

I'm up for this, and Glen Etive is a place I haven't explored yet, so that sounds good :D

Pretty much sounds like Glen Etive wins the day :)

Glen etive sounds great, though it can get busy. Finger crossed for some warm sunny weather, with a nice breeze to keep midges to keep midges away.

Don't think we will be camping anynore this summer, but might try and pop up for a while during day, evening.

Wherever is OK with me, but Glen Etive (which I am sure is gaelic for Glen of the whale-sized midge) will be the better for a stiff breeze otherwise a coastal location would be better.

Sounds good - Mr Dickson and I might even make it (Glen Etive is South of Inverness, right, so it maybe warm and sunny and tropical and there may be parots and tequilas and grass skirts ... ?).
Could I just ask: was that a joke about the 6 year old child? Not that it wouldn't raise the average mental age considderable - but I was thinking there would be drink and disorder? I'd be less interested to come along if there wasn't drink and disorder ... ! 8)

Martina

In the early stages of planning the bbq it was mentioned that it would be a 'family-friendly' event, and that Scott's and John B's daughters might be there too. Not sure now if there will be other wee girls there?

Wee India & her ma may not come, but if they do, India is well used to adults having parties around her, and anyway I should imagine she will be in her kip (I hope) while the perty's still going. So bring your grass skirts & tequilas. Maybe a fleece and thermals too, though!

Assuming the BBQ is still on, think phil carol and seb are thinking of coming as well, any volenteers to run the cresh

Any more detailes on when people are thinking of going up, we were planning on heading up Sat late morning, in time to arrive for afternoon gin and tonics, and head scratching over errecting a palace sized tent.
