Rhona had a shot on a portable climbing wall today, and wow was she good At five years she was putting 8year old boys to shame And it wasn't just me that she impressed... the guys who were running it were just as impressed and put her on harder and harder routes. Rhona's reaction was bring it on:D
She was literally running up the wall and not just using the holds but also using the wall features as well
She's a natural and puts her Dad to shame Will need to get her her own harness

Bearsden Ski Club...they had an open day on Sunday which was good fun
Julia was trying to convince me that we should take out a family membership. It was a real a "bargain" apparentley, being the open day they waived the joining fee and so it only cost three hundred odd quid for the year Of course I declined the offer.

Well, lets get that lass down to Ibrox ... It'll be a few years before she can belay you, though!
I am sure that I have looked into taking her to Ibrox and unfortunately the lower age limit is 8 years The wall at Exscape has similar age restrictions
Must be something to do with insurance
I might take her to Neilston, but it'll probably have to wait until next year now.
I've been taking my god-daughter (aged nearly 7) to Ibrox climbing wall since she was 5. The policy is that if adults supervise their children, they accept under 8s. Kids 8 and over can, however, take taught classes at the wall without parental supervision, with one of the instructors. I've seen a three year-old at the wall with her dad, attempting to do bouldering, and Saturday mornings are popular with families. The wall will hire out shoes, harnesses and helmets for wee ones, which costs a bit, but then as you won't be climbing (only belaying), you don't have to pay for your own entry.

Thanks for the info Martine
Turns out one of Rhona's class mates goes with her Dad and she is obviously the same age as Rhona. I've spoke to her dad dozens of times and just found out this week that he is a climber and takes his daughter to the wall
Wow, she's doing really well! Any time I've tried to get my god-daughter up the less horizontal walls, she takes 'rests' every few inches. When I tell her she needs to climb a bit more before she can rest, and that she is cheating, she retorts, 'But it's only for fun so it's not cheating'. Smartypants!

Well there was a bit of competition going on as Rhona's friend Isla was with us and she's been climbing for over a year. I think Rhona adopted an attitude of anything she can do, I can do better
So it wasn't just considered as fun, but also a challenge
She now wants me to get her her own harness and rock shoes like Isla's, but preferably in pink which I think I will as I wasn't too fussed on the overly huge harness they gave me for her...it took a hell of a lot of adjustment and had tonnes of excess webbing flapping about. Also the straps connecting the waist belt and the leg loops were too long meaning that the leg loops kept slipping down The chest harness was also far too large.
