Plea to all you budding photographers out there…

Does the idea of having your photographs immortalised on the club website gallery appeal to you :?: If so, then send me your pics.

I am interested in a wide range of photos which are representative of the club activities. The obvious subjects could be climbing (rock and ice), hillwalking and landscapes…abroad as well as in Scotland.

Even the odd mountain biking, kayaking or skiing shot if anyone has good pics of these activities. There might also be a folder for social events.

However, what I am particularly keen to do is to have a spread of pics which include as much of the membership as possible. And to all the girlies…if you want female representation in the Gallery, then it’s up to you to submit some photos. So everyone get digging into their photo archives and pull out their best pics.

I should point out that there will be a quality control system in place and that the editor’s decision will be final as regards what pics will be posted on the Gallery :) However, if I don’t get sent enough photos then I may be unable to be too choosy :!:

What say we start with folk forwarding their “top ten” pics. However, if you are really confident of the quality you can send more.

And if you didn’t take the photo yourself, could you let me know who the photographer was as I am considering crediting the photographers in the photo descriptions.

Remember, it’s your site and your gallery, in order for this to be successful we need your photographs. You can email them to me at scott@orionmc.org.uk or scottorionmc@yahoo.com or give them to me on disc, whatever.

Oh, and photos which are already on the Forum are not precluded from consideration for the Gallery.

Thanks Gav, and I know that I can rely on quality from you :)

Also, I know that you have a lot of outstanding shots from oversea trips, which are more than welcome, but if possible can you give my Scottish/UK stuff as well :?:

Everyone seems to be sending me photos taken in far off lands and I'd like some of our own backyard so to speak.

I meant to say in my posting above...thanks to all who have responded and sent me some of their fav pics.

I now have a good number to work with and have started to put together the gallery. However, I am unsure as yet how to file the photos. I am also starting to realise the limitations of using Flickr, which is obviously a photo storage page and not really for galleries :? Having said that, even using Flickr will kick the ass off most other clubs' galleries. Some are just shocking

Anyone got any other suggestions for a free or cheapish site to host the gallery :?:

I still want more quality photos and we actually have a real lack of Scottish stuff and also hillwalking. Everyone seems to dig out there favourites which always seem to be sunny photos taken abroad or climbing shots which are obviously more immediately spectacular if composed well.

However, I would like to be representative of the clubs activities and also show that we are a Scottish club.

So yes, send me climbing and abroad pics, but also look out your homegrown Scottish hillwalking photos.

Found this lot I scanned years ago before the cheapo scanner broke. Feel free to pilfer them for the new club gallery.

Clachaig Orion nostalgia

you can certainly download/print this one :)

<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2296/2324017697_3b8ec22865.jpg?v=0">

in fact, may I suggest you have it framed and hung on the wall of the Vicky Bar?

I might get a new scanner and do the rest - loads of old slides/prints of club worthies...

I`ve just pulled about 2,000 slides from the attic.Lost all my best ones along the way...last seen at a slide show in Rosslyn Avenue

Anyway, haven`t looked a them in years and I was surprised to see that there are some crackers there that I forgot all about.Loads of winter hillwalking ones in the days when we had decent winters  and plenty of rock climbing ones from the Lakes,Wales,Cairngorms,Garbh Bheinn,Reiff (in the days before there was a guide book  ) and to top them all.....about 50 of Auchinstarry 8)

Unfortunately Gavins slide scanner is broken,a bit like his body,so have no way of uploading them.

Anybody ever used one of they cheapo attachments for a flatbed scanner for scanning slides :?:

Gotta thank you all who have sent me pics. Over 10 of you have done so and i now have literally hundreds of photos to sort through  and that doesn't even include my own.

Have started putting a gallery together which I hope shall reflect the club's activities, past and present, and shall include as many members and member's photos as possible.

I am working furiously every night I get a spare half hour or more and would hope to have it ready for viewing within the next few weeks or so.

Anyone out there who hasn't submitted pics can still do so. Also remember you can send me pics anytime in the future after a day out.

Scott,

I`ve got a load of shots from Jamie, mainly ice routes and the Alps.Have permission to use them on the forum so see no reason why we can`t use them in the Gallery as well.I`ll mail him to make sure first, though he`ll probably be out collecting some award

Graham, take it you mean smugmug :?: It is so easy to use, has great presentation and can be used to do so much...so much better than flickr which is very frustrating to use.

Anyone out there planning on doing their own gallery, well I would recommend smugmug. And all for only 10 quid for the first year :D
