Crackin' day up Cul Beag yesterday. Rainbows, homemade pizza, wine gums..Scottish lizards.....

'Mountain Goat Fester' set the pace. Coming off the top he led us down a rather steep gulley, almost to our death .....but we survived. I am sure someone else will provide a more accurate account later.

I think we were more concerned when Fester disappeared off the edge in the distance. I still think he flew down. Gordon you did well to lead us to safety. Anyway we were all very sure-footed, even though we scoffed all those wine gums and may have been descending on a sugar rush.

It was a very relaxing weekend. Top quote has to be when Craig commented that looking at geological slides was, "Even more fun than looking at insect mouth parts". If that doesn't attract more people to the club, I can't think what will.

Well, I've seen some jolly interesting insect mouth parts. I have several microscope slides, and a book on the subject! What variety they have, from the delicate feeding tube of a butterfly to the crunching mandibles of a locust. Entrancing! Anyway, anyone bitten by a cleg, midge, or indeed a tsetse fly (which carries an on-board drilling rig for blood prospecting) will know how interesting insect mouth parts are.

Glad to hear you had a good weekend. I tried some gardening, but had to lie down for a while afterwards.

Hope it wasn't a rock garden Gavin..... good to hear you are moving about - a bit?

...did anyone happen to mention the beautiful homemade pizza's the Italian contingent of the club made for us on the Saturday night. Think there were 6 masive pizzas scoffed. One even made it half way up a corbett the next day.

Talking about Italian pizza Gail, Morven and I tried creating the Cannigone classic: rocket, mushroom and truffle oil. Not a bad effort almost as good as the real thing.

Fester bags a bit of pizza with a caper and he added his own ingredient - I believe that is a bit of pepperami?



And here we see Julian and Alex looking very pleased to be at the summit of Cul Beag. They resisted making further phone calls to Scott, however.

Yeah, they phoned me from the top of Foinaven to taunt me for not making it up to Sutherland at the weekend. However, I have quickly forgiven them both

Why...because on Sunday, Neil and I had a fantastic day out on Curved Ridge in beautiful weather. Quite possibly my best day out this winter
