For those not on the club email list, here are details of the proposed 1st Aid course. The best date for folk seems to be Sunday 15th June and it would be at ours in the southside. Please let us know if you want to come along. This is the course Mel agreed to run at the request of the club in her capacity as a GP.
It is completely NON-CERTIFICATED. If you require certification, you will have to go on an official course run by St Andrews or the Red Cross etc.
This is merely a totally basic "how to keep Messrs Knot and Rees" alive until the helicopter arrives sort of thing.
Mel has asked me to point out that those who want to come that you have to be aware that she is not a qualified first aid trainer. She will pass on experience, but cannot be responsible for anything which happens after that.
I have just finished my HSE First Aider course, so have course materials and plenty of spare bandages for practising.
We would hope to cover CPR(obviously we don't have a dummy....or do we!!!) to practise on so we will just have to give you the basics.
Will also cover bleeding and fractures and the like.
We won't be able to cover the other aspects of casualty management, like deciding whether to stay/leave a casualty to get help, or how to split a party after an accident.
On the brighter side there will be tea and coffee and Mel might even be persuaded to do some baking (or Catherine will do the baking and Mel will pretend it was her)
I think I have visitors staying over that weekend, otherwise the thought of eating scones while attempting to put someone's arm in a sling really would appeal to me. My first aid course always recommended serving tea to casualties too, with plenty of sugar, although organising a kettle and teacups up a mountain is, I feel, a Level 2 First Aid skill.
