Before 1957 the old Invergarry to Skye road used to run past Tomdoun and from there it turned north, crossed the River Loyne and then climbed to over 1,400ft by the east side of Creag a' Mhaim. From this lofty point it then dropped down to the Cluianie Inn.
Not now! As a result of the post-war hydroelectric works the river and glen were flooded and the old road was lost forever beneath the waves.
Or was it?

So, I had discovered that during dry summers the level of the loch dropped low enough to cross without getting wet. (the same year that the above photos were take the gate posts of the old estate house under Loch Cluaine were also visable)
The next time I tried the same thing it hadn't been quite so dry.

This is where the old road now stops.

Cracking set of pics David :!:

The bridge was just visible last September when I passed from the viewpoint near the memorial to the SNP guy.

Brilliant shot of the bridge ... fascinating. Next time I'm up there in the dry I think I'll go looking for it.
