How would you know...you only went up one hill on the saturday and the clag was down and on the sunday you went to melrose for the day

But don't worry, I'm trying to keep things fresh and so won't be doing a BBA place 2 years in a row :) But next year....

And you better hurry up with your contribution to the vote...just this evening I have booked 3 out of the 6 winter venues, including the one in the Lakes

Here are my votes, hope I am not too late. I have basically chosen the ones which I haven't been to, but heard about!

Glen Lichd House, Kintail
Strawberry Cottage, Glen Affric
Carn Dearg Hut, Glen Clova
Coruisk Memorial Hut, Loch Scavaig
Blackrock Cottage, Glencoe (I have been here but I like it!)
One in the Lakes....

Hello,

My votes for WINTER 2009 - 2010

Arran
North High Corrie Croft (Bunkhouse)

Central Highlands
Alex Macintyre Memorial Hut, North Ballachulish

Western Highlands
Glen Lichd House, Kintail

Northern Highlands
Invercroft, Achnasheen

Cairngorms
Carn Dearg Hut, Glen Clova

And I liked the following SUGGESTIONS FOR SUMMER 2010
Skye, probably camping in May (still haven't been to Skye since the bridge was built!!)
Other islands (possibly camping on Arran, Rum, Jura or even Eigg) - I'd vote for Rum, seeing as how I never got there this year.
Anywhere in the Lakes for September 2010. Gordon the Lakes are nothing like the Borders, you'd have a great time there. You might even be tempted to take up rock climbing!

Sorry Martine, your votes came in to late to count  I finished the booking of winter hut venues this morning :)

However, the good news (for you) is that 3 of your hut choices made the cut :D The full list shall be put up here once I have finalised the summer meets.

Sorry, for being too late for the winter meets selection. Too busy gazing at vast awe-inspiring glaciers, dragging myself through the mud in Tierra del Fuego or even worse trying to drag myself up my first 6000m peak (failed and in recovery stadium:-))

As for the summer meets, my vote would be for:

1. Skye, probably camping in May…always a winner!

Somewhere where it would be easy access to the Dubhs Ridge or for the "Favourite 1 dayexcursion" somewhere else in this forum.

2. Other islands: preferably Aran or Jura

3. Club BBQ (any suggested locations?)
4. Lake District, camping

Silke

Thanks for voting Silke :) Although I can't understand how you managed to inspire yourself being surrounded by peaks which make our lowly hills look very dull by comparison :?

Alex mentioned today that he had been in contact with you and you thought that you might be home earlier than previously planned...will you be home in time and looking for a space in the CIC Hut for our booking in late February :?:

I,d be interested in a club cycle trip to arran.Cycled round it all(60 odd miles,a few big hills) in a one sunday jaunt last year but did find it a bit of a rush as I was always aware of the last ferry time and of being in a hurry frame of mind throughout. A better option would be the north half of island as its more spectacular, wilder and most importantly has a lot less cars.I couldnt believe how many 4 by 4s passed me on the southern half and it did spoil that section a bit as I had fond memories of earlier car free cycling round that part.North bit is only 30 miles and youd have time for a coke and pub lunch in lochranza or thereabouts while the really keen could go round cock of arran headland road.It is great scenery and one of the best road cycles in scotland, and you can do in an easy day from glasgow.I,ll believe it when it happens though.

Bob, I was proposing the north half only anyway, and I had worked it out to be nearer 40miles. A decent length without being too hard. And believe me, it will happen :)

Well folks, here are the meets for 2009-2010. I have taken into consideration the votes that I received from members whilst trying for a geographical spread, and for the winter hut venues I have also allowed for the possibility that we may wish to increase the number of places from the normal 12 booked beds.

Summer

1-3 May...........Isle of Jura, rough camping
22-24 May........Skye, camping at Glen Brittle
20 June............Summer solstice high camp, location to be confirmed
25 July.............Club BBQ, location to be confirmed
8 Aug...............Cycle Meet, round the north of Arran
25-27 Sept .......Great Langdale, Lake District, camping

The Jura trip will have the benefit that there is now a direct ferry from Tayvallich to the island (Craighouse). See here http://blog.scotlandview.co.uk/article. ... jura-ferry

For those folk who are not familiar with the Lakes, Great Langdale is a great location for climbing and hill walking.

At the moment I am happy with the number of summer meets, any more and some of them may not be too well attended. However, should it become apparent that interest dictates that further meets would be welcomed, I may consider arranging more. Possibly a Knoydart trip, Coruisk for the Dubhs Ridge and even a summer booking of the CIC Hut have been suggested to me.

Winter

16-17 Oct 2009...................Invercroft, Glen Carron
13-14 Nov 2009..................Mill Cottage, Feshiebridge
11-12 Dec 2009..................Alex MacIntyre Hut, North Ballachulish
8-9 Jan 2010......................Kintail Outdoor Centre, Kintail
5-6 Feb 2010......................Carn Dearg Hut, Glen Clova
12-13 March 2010...............Bowderstone Cottage, Borrowdale, Lakes
dates to be confirmed.........CIC Hut, Ben Nevis

I had enquired about booking the new JMCS hut which is near Laggan. They have taken on The Cabin to take the place of Jock’s Spot, of which they lost the lease a few years ago. Unfortunately the hut will not be open until later this year and they don’t plan to take bookings until that time. If the meets are going well next winter then I might try booking The Cabin for next April as not much usually happens in April apart from maybe the odd bothy trip.

Hi Scott, no I am unfortunately not back for CIC hut. Would love to go. I am probably back in mid-March and looking to go and have a few weekends climbing on the Ben in late March or early April...if any other Orionites were available...

Scott/ Graham,

can you keep me updated on the CIC mid-week-availability. Will be back in scotland on 15th March and wont have a job, which has its good and bad sides. One of the good sides certainly is that it will be my one and only chance for a mid-week outing up to the CIC. Hope I can convince somebody to take some mid-week time off for some uncrowded climbing, but even by myself I would be happy enough to go.

Well, will have to get some New Zealand hills out of the way first, before planning some scottish gullies...Hope you are enjoying the heaps of snow. Silke

For your diaries, the final booking for next winter...I have received confirmation of our Winter 2009-2010 CIC Hut booking.

We have four places booked for 26-27 February 2010.

Alex, can you stick it up on the Meets page of the web site.

Gordon, can you give me £80 as I have had to pay this up front (2nights x 4persons x £10p/p/n)
