Last night there was quite a lot of us in, think it was due to the forthcoming dinner this weekend, and we far outnumbered the other punters who only numbered about four

The music was actually less loud than usual and although we were outside all night, I thought it would have been practical to sit inside and have a conversation.

Oh, shame you and Patrizia changed your mind and decided not to come this weekend :( D'ya want me to keep some of the food for you :D

Hi Scott,

I'm not going to fall out with you about this, but as Graham was saying I'm just stating my opinion.
I have been drinking in this pub for 18 years and it was my local for all of the 90's. I was there a couple of nights during the week and at weekends...I even got my phone calls there in the days before mobiles. Does this not qualify me to say that its been ruined? I don't mean that the new owners ruined it. Gerry ran it down for most of this decade.
All I'm saying is that its fine if you drink lager and don't mind sitting in the freezing cold. I don't drink lager and I cannot stand being cold.
I hadn't noticed that smoking had already been mentioned in the previous posts so I didn't include that in my last one. I have absolutely nothing against smokers, and this is most definitely NOT aimed at the clubs smokers, but I thought the whole point of the smoking ban was that non-smokers sat inside and those wanting to smoke had to go outside. I do not want to sit outside drinking foul beer, frozen, unable to get a seat, unable to see the face of the person I'm talking to AND breathing in 2nd hand smoke.
As I say, I am not going to fall out with anyone over this, I was merely giving MY opinion as you all have. I am not trying to rush the club in to anything. I was merely stating that I find it so miserable now that I personally will not be down apart from dropping money off or for seeing people for 5 minutes to arrange things on hut weekends. I will then retreat to the warmth and comfort of the Laureston with its decent beer and quiet atmosphere.
I was actually asked to put something on the forum about this so thats what my previous post was...it was not an attack on anyone or the club or an attempt to force us into anything. Please take it as such. Regards and many thanks to Gordon for an excellent club dinner.

I dont think what craig is saying is unreasonable. The fact that Craig has only been down to the pub 3 times this year (approx?), when we all know how much he likes a pint  , is surely enough for us all to question our choice of pub?

Last Thursday was freezing sitting outside. Ruth was supposed to be coming down but I am glad she didn't because we would have had to have sat inside by ourselves  . This is not a strong incentive to coming down on a Thursday night.

....it seems that everyone's judgement is being clouded by the good old days in the Viccy. Lets me honest, the pub is no longer the Viccy. It is the 'Scotch Corner' and is not very desireable. I don't think we should stay there in the off chance an old member of the club, pops in once a year? We should be making sure the current members of the club are happy and enjoying their Thursday night pint every week.

What about the Laurieston or Mono?

I am willing to travel :D if the west end is preferable, how about the Park bar, or the Islay Inn or Argyle St. Nice traditional Scottish pubs, reasonably nearby tube and rail links?

No! Better get studying ... no fun 'till the 15th!

Remember ... knowledge is always more important than ... errr, ummm ... ah ... damn, can't remember. Anyway, you students shouldn't be out drinking and carousing, but studying diligently towards your ... [baf! ooof! ow! ahh!] ... that hurt!

Bloody hell, calm down you lot!

I had an earnest talk with the manager last night. I restricted myself to two grievances viz noise and poor choice of beer. On the first count, I think we will see a change almost immediately with a change of act and style of music. I say wait until next week. The management will be awaiting our feedback. On the second count, there was little I could get from management, basically the turnover of beer is apparently so low that a keg goes off before it is used up so the draft beers will only be in the Clutha for the foreseeable future. The management has a point, a bit of a catch 22 really but unwilling to entice people in by creating a reputation for a good choice of well managed beer.

If there is one thing that I don't miss about the Viccy from 2000 to 2006 it is the draft beer/lager. One took ones life in ones hands (or ones head in ones hands all of the next day) having even a sniff of it.

My Presidential suggestion is that we watch and see how management reacts to my suggestions, and do little else until early January since we wont be able to get a normal perspective on any pub in the run up to christmas. After that, if things haven't improved I will try and gauge whether collectively we find the situation intolerable and also we 'research' some other pubs so that we can if really necessary vote on it atthe AGM in late Jan/early Feb. We have to include non-Forum suggestions too. People can rant and be as undiplomatic as they want here as long as they are getting their viewpoint across but nothing can be changed without a concensus, a propery measured one, that is. Just don't fall out over it, we are meant to be a happy club. You can't please all of the people all of the time.

Ding ding! seconds out, round two.

Well, the music has miraculously disappeared, two weeks ago it was really quite pleasant in the pub since you could hear other people talking and not have to risk hypothermia outside. Phase 1 of the plan is complete. It seems to have gone quiet ont eh Forum too, are people finding the pub less intolerable now?

The price of failure would be resignation and sudden absence from grief. I can't lose.

Glad to hear things have improved in the Viccy. Hope to be downthepub soon. My exams are over. Caloo Caley. I am a free woman. Free to start doing the literature review for my dissertation, that is.

The price of failure, in university terms, is an external examiner aggregating marks and deciding if one needs to do a resubmission.

Bets on for the Viccy actually being open on Thursday? That band the Thursday before Xmas in the Clutha were a bit young and loud for my old ears. Time to start round three of Where Do We Meet debate?
