Parking is fine. You can usually find a place easy enough in Bath Street or any of the surrounding streets.

The State Bar was pretty good on Thursday, it always has been a good pub but the walk to and from the bus station/Union St/George Square combined with the extended bus journey for me is too much. I don't think I will be making the journey very often. If we migrate any further west we will have to hand out U.S. visas with each club membership.

That would be a great shame. It is a good pub but agree it's not great for public transport. What's next on the list to try anyone else any ideas?

Reply to Jules and Graham: I disagree with you guys as the State is still in the City Centre and is the best pub we have tried. You are both looking at it from the point of view of living in the east or south side. If you live in the west or north then the pub is in a good location.

It certainly is no more difficult for you two to get to than someone getting to the Vicky by bus from the west was.

All that said, a democratic vote on which pub will soon sort out this thorny issue :)

So where are we going to be talking about it :?: The State, the 'Still or somewhere else entirely :?:

At the moment my vote for best pub that we have tried is the State, by a mile :!: I don't see any overall disadvantages with it.

Personally, the rest of them I don't really like as a permanent residence for the club, although the best of the bunch is the Pot Still.

However, the only advantage that the 'Still has over the State is that it is central within the city centre, but then again we weren't central at the Vicky.

Think we need to find a home soon, but it's becoming apparent that pleasing all is going to be impossible. Everyone, including myself, will have to be willing to compromise.

Maybe we should try a couple more places (if we can think of any) and then I propose that we shortly vote on the ones that we have tried so far :?:

Well I've been there until almost 11.30pm, so I assume it's open until midnight.

I agree, lets try and decided on a new home soon. If the location of certain bars is going to discourage people coming out on Thursday nights then we should consider this, alongside all of the other criteria (no live music, appropriate character, enough tables, decent beer, parking etc.) I like the State bar but I also liked the Pot Still, Blane Valley, Babbity Bowsers and the 13th note. Could we try Babbity Bowsers or the Blane Valley again. I think Babbities was only busy for meals that one Thursday because it was one of the sunniest days of the year.

Personally I think Babbities falls short on at least three of the fronts you mention gordon...wrong character, lack of parking and lack of tables, in fact it was my least favourite for the club. The others I weren't too keen on either.

I think anywhere where we can sit down and really talk about this issue and thrash out some sort of plan. Graham, if you're suggesting the State, then I think it as good as anywhere for this purpose. What do others think :?:

It would be good to see as many folk coming in as possible tonight. That way we can get opinions and ideas from as many members as possible.

Scott,
I'll not be able to make it tonight, but for what my vote counts "in abstentia" then I'd have to say the Pot Still first as it is more central for everyone, has a good atmosphere, and plenty of seats. Besides, one of these days I'll be organised enough to get the bus since nobody stays over this way to take turns carsharing with and drive each other to drink!! HOWEVER, in fairness I haven't been to the State Bar, so going from what's been said about it would settle for that too.

Hopefully I'll make it to our new official venue next week though!

All the best,
Iain.

I guess seeing as there has been no further suggestions then it looks like the State bar tonight. Hopefully we can thrash out the way ahead.
