Post subject:  Pic Size......

6 month anniversary is coming up in a few days so everyone has had plenty of time to get it right......

Here are the Photobucket rules. If you want to use your own hosting that`s fine as long as you keep to the file size and pixel limits .

1.Open your own photobucket account.
2.When uploading your pics, below the "Choose Files" button, there is a dialogue box offering you the option to "reduce to".
3.Select 640 x 480 Large from this.
4.When they are uploaded then just click on the IMG code and paste it into the forum at the point where you want to insert the pic.
5.Any questions then post them on here rather than mailing me as then everyone can see the answer and I don`t have to repeat myself all the time :D
6.Keep the file size below 100kb.....that`s plenty :!:
7. If you want to post loads of photos in the one message then please consider splitting it into 2 or 3 posts.
7. If you want to let everyone see them in high res then just include a link at the end of your post to your photo hosting site like Alistair does.
8. I have created a hidden forum for anybody that wants to practice. You can doodle about all you want on it.Email me and I`ll give you access.
9.No crap photos to be posted  Maybe one or two to illustrate a report if there is nothing better though.
10. Persistent offenders will have their photos deleted :D

Regards,

Adolf

Scott has unlimited hosting at the Smugmug account. Please send him any photos that you think worthy of inclusion at as big a file size as you wish :!:

It has been updated recently with some good stuff. If there are any of your shots on there then could you spare a moment to put a wee description underneath them.It lets people know exactly where it is and makes it a friendlier experience for casual visitors :D

Right.....my above post might look a bit harsh :D

I`m trying to keep everybody happy and to keep the forum looking sweet.Personally I don`t care what size pics are posted.
However, there is broadband and there is broadband. A lot of ISP`s will tell you that you are getting 2meg or 8meg or whatever. In reality they will cap your download speed during peak hours of between 8am and 10pm. My neighbours "8meg" broadband hovers around 250k to 500k at peak times. So,just think before you post . If you want to post 200kb pics then fine.If you are putting loads of them in the one post then please consider reducing them somewhat or splitting them into 2 posts.Use your common sense :D

There isn`t another climbing club forum like this one. Most of them are text based along the lines of "Was up in Glencoe today...click here for pics". Clicking takes you to their club gallery where you have to open each pic individually. Ours is more like browsing a coffee table climbing/hillwalking book ...far superior. This is because you lot have learned how to embed your pics in the text :D
Have a look around and tell me if you see a better one.If you do then we`ll copy it

The only other site I know using a similar theme is the excellent Scottish Hills site.If you haven`t seen it yet then you should have a look.Loads of cracking trip reports and photos....

Scottish Hills

The guy that runs it,Chris, has refrained from imposing rules with regard to embedding pictures. He lets it police itself. Most folk are savvy enough to pick it up and see what fits and what doesn`t,or to ask other folk for help if they need it. Some however are completely oblivious to the mess they make with their pictures. The pictures are that wide that you have to scroll across the screen to see them which is bad enough, but it also makes the subsequent text disappear as well . This will not be tolerated here at all :!:

I propose that any offender in the pixel width stakes gets a yellow card and that every subsequent violation is subject to a fine of one pint for the forum admin.

EDIT: Forgot to say that it`s usually a waste of time trying to go to Scottish Hills during daytime as it takes forever to load.Better at night time.
