The campsite is in a great location. Nearby is good hillwalking (Bowfell, Scafell, Langdale Pikes, etc) and numerous crags for climbing (Raven Crag, Gimmer Crag, Pavey Ark, etc)
And more importantly for some, it’s also close to a couple of good pubs

Looks like not many folk are showing interest? Is this because it is in the lakes, or is it becasue no one is available next weekend? I am keen to get out somewhere. If the lakes are not desireable I would also be keen to do some rough camping up north for 1 or 2 nights and maybe do some bagging? Any takers? Would be open to suggestions - maybe Strathfarrar?

Gordon, as half the club voted to go the Lakes this summer I would sincerely hope that the reason for a poor response isn’t the venue.
Personally I think it is just typical of summer meets…traditionally they can be difficult to organise as folk tend to have other things arranged. I am also starting to wonder if, unlike in the past, bank holiday weekends are not as suitable for some.
It would be a great shame if this meet doesn’t come off. The Lakes can be a great place to go in September and earlier in the year there were a lot of members talking about rock climbing at this weekend and I had hoped that it would be well attended.

It's probably the weather that's making people wait till the last minute before committing.
Don't think so Graham...in my capacity as Meets Sec I have been trying to drum up interest and, apart from the few folk who have made non-committing noises on this thread, I can't recall anyone else who is remotely interested
'Fraid this meet looks like it will go the way of the Jura and BBQ Meets and not happen, meaning that half of the summer meets will have been cancelled As I said above this has always been the case with formal meets in the summer and is the reason why there hadn't been any for ages until a few years ago.
And anyway if folk are waiting on forecasts they could say they are coming and then change plans at the last moment to somewhere with a better forecast if need be. We've all done that before.
Further more what is anyone doing in a Scottish mountaineering club if they are afraid of a wee bit rain

Well, unless I go tot he Lake district myself, I think the meet is not going to happen??
I am now going to make alternative plans for the weekend.....probably involving the purchase of paint and a spot of DIY in the house. If anyone wants to go out for a day trip on Sat, Sun or Monday let me know.

As is usual at holiday weekends since I've had kids, the Valentines will be going camping somewhere, location to be decided.
We may or may not be accompanied by the Burtons and the Barries depending on weather and if a venue suiting all can be agreed on John and Gail are thinking on Dornie, but forecast for the week ahead looks much better further east.
Any childless mountaineers out there who are at a loose end are welcome to came along...as long as they feel that they are able to put up with the weans
